We are happy to announce Starfall, a massive update to Villagers & Heroes bringing a huge amount of improvements and new features - a level cap raise and new zones, a completely revamped loot system, a new leveling system with new talent trees and feats for all classes, and countless other additions such as a new world map, mobile improvements and more.
New Talents
Master Your Class!
Starfall brings all-new talent trees and feats for all classes! Read on below for details on how leveling and talents now works, or click the Talent Builder button to experiment with the new talents and specializations right in your browser.
Talent Builder
Create your own builds right in your browser, take a look at all talents, and share your builds with others.
The way talents work has received a compleve overhaul. Each class now has 12 talents grouped into 3 specializations per class, and all talents are passive. Here is an example of a talent - Hexing Shadows is a Priest talent which make enemies hit by shadow spells deal less damage:
The same talent can now be leveled up every level, rather than every 5 levels, but it can only be leveled up a limted amount of times. In the example above, Hexing Shadows can only be leveled up 5 times, though some talents can reach up to 35 levels. Once you level up any talent fully, you unlock its Ultimate.

Ultimates

Ultimates are extremely powerful bonuses which unlock as you fully level up your talents. Some Ultimates are active and provide new feats to use in combat, while some are passive and grant game-changing effects.

In the earlier example, the Unstable Power Ultimate gives your Shadow Orbs a chance to detonate all remaining damage over time effects, providing a huge damage boost. Other Ultimates - each class has 12, one for each talent - provide equally powerful new abilities.
New Content
Embark on new adventures!
For all you level-capped players out there who have been itching to unlock new regions, battle challenging new Elder Bosses, and embark upon a whole new series of story driven adventures, then worry not, because with the Starfall build comes seven new zones of content, a level cap raise to 90, and the opportunity to undertake a 5th Rebirth for even greater rewards!
Note: Starfall will ship with four of these zones - the remaining three will be rolled out soon after.

Journey To The Crux

Exotic lands, rich with luscious scenery and dark mysteries, await those who are ready to continue their journey to the Crux! But be warned: traversing these often eerie forests, or snow-laden peaks, cavernous underground passageways or ghoulish swamps, is not for the faint of heart and might even require the assistance of certain other renowned heroes along the way. Huh? What other renowned heroes?

They are called The Lumineers, and are a colorful, somewhat motley, group of lively adventurers, many of whom you have already encountered before in your travels! For reasons that will quickly be made apparent, the Lumineers also desperately need to reach the Crux. Just what diabolical goings on are taking place in Queen Zoria’s hive? Travel with The Lumineers through many a land of wonder, and embark upon more than a few epic adventures with this unique group of heroes in what will be a remarkable journey!

New Loot
Discover & Craft Amazing Gear!
Experience a completely revamped loot system with items more significant than ever! Whether you battle deadly adversaries in the far wilderness or craft your own gear in the community of your village, the items you aquire will be more powerful than ever before.

Power Rating

A rough measure of how good an item is.

Stat Boosts

Stats increased by an item are shown in the tooltip. Some are rarer and add new unique mechanics.
Read more about stat boosts below.

Runes

Runes are switchable between items, and grant you combat feats or other powerful abilities.
Read more about Runes below.

Rarity

Items are now more clearly sorted into rarities - the rarest items are incredibly difficult to find or craft, but come with amazing powers and benefits.

Inferior

Very common, Inferior items have only base stats and nothing else.

Common

Common items are the first to contain Runes.

Uncommon

Uncommon items are harder to find and the first to contain stat boosts.

Rare

Much harder to find, and with more powerful stat boosts.

Epic

Very rare but with great stats and rare stat boosts.

Legendary

Yet to be found, but powerful beyond imagination.

Stats

Items now contain many more stat boosts - passive bonuses which make you more powerful in a variety of ways. You get less affected by the stat bonuses as you level up, so be sure to always look for better items as you keep playing! Here’s a few examples of stats you may encounter:

Vitality

Increases your maximum health.

Expertise

Reduces the cooldown time of feats and spells.

Critical Chance

Increases your chance to critically hit.

Voidstrike

Chance to deal massive extra damage.
Stats on items come in 3 rarities. Common are base stats such as armor and damage, Uncommon give more advanced benefits, and Rare add entirely new gameplay mechanics like lifestealing or magical shields. Unlike runes, stat boosts cannot be moved between items.

Masteries

In addition to the stats mentioned above which any class can make use of, there are also two unique stats per class - these are known as Masteries, and increase the power of your feats:

Warrior

Fury Mastery

Increases the power of Fury feats.

Lightning Mastery

Increases the power of Lightning feats.

Wizard

Fire Mastery

Increases the power of Fire spells.

Ice Mastery

Increases the power of Ice spells.

Hunter

Marksman Mastery

Increases the power of Marksman feats.

Nature Mastery

Increases the power of Nature feats.

Priest

Divine Mastery

Increases the power of Holy spells.

Shadow Mastery

Increases the power of Shadow spells.

Runes

Note: What used to be called runes (used when enhancing) are now simply called "Enhancements".
Replacing feats on items, there are now Runes - they can be moved between items through Gnogmenting, and grant you either new feats, passive abilities, or boosts to existing feats. There are three kind of runes, restricted to different kinds of gear:

Active Runes

Active Runes are the main source of feats and spells.

Passive Runes

Passive Runes give passive bonuses to your character.

Augmentation Runes

Augmentation Runes improve a specific feat or spell.
A rune becomes less useful as you face higher-level enemies than when you got it - so finding higher-level items, even if the rune is the same, is extremely useful!

Armaments

Armaments are items which, when used, gives you a piece of gear with random properties - if lucky, you may receive something of great power! You now frequently receive Armanents as quest rewards.

New Item Slots

We are also introducing 5 all-new item types and slots! Each class now has two slots for trinkets - small pieces of equipment which grant various bonuses - as well as one class-specific item slot:
  • Warriors can now find and equip Bracers.
  • Wizards can now find and equip Spellbooks.
  • Hunters can now find and equip Knives.
  • Priests can now find and equip Sceptres.
These items, like trinkets, are equippable pieces of gear and provide passive bonuses to your character.
Other News
Boundless Improvements!
In addition to all the changes above, Villagers & Heroes has also received a brand new world map, tons of UI improvements such as redesigned tooltips, and many bugfixes and general enhancements.

New World Map

The world map of Villagers & Heroes has been completely redrawn, and now as vast and detailed as the Seven Realms themselves. See the rolling plains of Ardent, the lush forests of Greenhaven and the frigid peaks of Stormhold, with more detail than ever before.
Drag world map to look around!
Not only is the art updated, but the functionality as well - on PC the map now displays across the whole screen, and there’s a zone list when opening the world map just like on mobile. You can now quickly travel to the zone you want to get to without having to find it on the map, through a neatly sorted list of tracked, discovered and undiscovered zones.

UI Improvements

On both PC and mobile, the game UI has received improvements across the board! Rebirths now have a new look and are much easier to check up on, the PC HUD has been polished in various areas, and as can be seen above all game tooltips have also been completely redesigned.

Repair Changes

Repair is being removed from most items. Weapons, gear, and armor will no longer break down, and will no longer need repair. Gathering Tools is the exception, and will still break down and need repair.

Items being enhanced from use (i.e. being broken down and then repaired) will no longer be a part of the game systems.
Repair-related items and services will be changed as follows:
  • Vendor Repair: Vendor’s will still have a repair window, however this will now only be used for gathering tools.
  • Repair Effluxes: These items are changing name and icon, they are now called “Bottled Repair Globules” and will fully fix all of your gathering tools. The item shop price for these items will be reduced when Starfall goes live.
  • Preservation Stones: These are being removed from the game. Any unused preservation stones will refund crowns automatically when Starfall goes live.
  • Repair Kits: These items are being removed from the game. All repair kits will be converted to gems with a gold value equal to the value used in the recipe. Recipes for Repair kits will be removed.

Item Trade Status Changes

We are making some changes to how trade statuses work. Before there were several different confusing systems that crossed over one another - there was Cannot be traded, Account Bound, Soulbound and various states and pairings of the above.

The first big change we are making is the removal of soulbound stripping runes. These items are being removed from the store and the game. Any unused soulbound stripping runes will be reimbursed once Starfall goes live.

We are merging the terms Cannot Be Traded and Soulbound into simply Soulbound. If an item is Soulbound, it means that it cannot be traded to anyone, even other characters on the same account.

Gear will remain with Bind on Equip which means that after being worn at least once, it will become bound to that character. Since it is now Soulbound it cannot be traded to anyone (even on same account, can’t be sold on Auction House, etc.). Account Bound will remain as it is. If something is Account Bound, it can be traded with other characters on the same account, but not other players.

Finally, we are making it so all items can only have a single state. There will no longer be items that are Account Bound and Bind on Equip. It will only be one ever. This means items will only ever have one of the following four states:
  • Soulbound: Cannot be traded with any player or character.
  • Account Bound: Can be traded with characters on your account, but not other players.
  • Binds on Equip: Fully tradeable with any player or character until it is equipped, then it will be Soulbound, and thus not tradeable.
  • (No status): Fully tradeable with any player or character.
My Old Items
What Will Happen?
Since Starfall is bringing large changes to the way items work, some of your items will be either refunded or converted into a currency you can use to get new, powerful gear. Below is a breakdown of exactly how this system works.

Inactive accounts

An account considered inactive will have their equippable gear deleted rather than converted (see below). This is done for purely logistical reasons, though the vast majority of active players will need to take no action. Your account is considered active if it meets ANY of these conditions:
  • Have played within 7 days.
  • Have played within 14 days, and have a character level 5 or higher.
  • Have played within 60 days, and have a character level 20 or higher.
  • Have a character level 40 or higher, OR has been level 40 prior to a rebirth.
The "active" status of an account is on a per-server basis. So if you have logged in on US1 within the last week, but have not logged in to US2 for a year and only have a level 5 character there, the US1 characters will be converted, but the US2 character will not.

Patch Day

Some things will happen on patch day which all players may be affected by:
  • Auctions: All auctions will be cancelled. Items will be sent back to the seller regardless of current bids. All auction fees - deposits and bids - will be refunded.
  • Mail: Pending mail with items will be bound to their recipient.
  • Gear in community vaults: All equippable combat gear in community vaults will be deleted. We recommend that you take these items out of your community vault and store them on a character. This only applies to combat gear, and only community vaults!

Refunds

The following items will be removed but give you refunds in return:
  • Enhancement Runes: For each enhancement rune on an item, you will receive a full refund of its original gold cost.
  • Gnogmented gear: Any gold spent on gnogmenting items on your character or in your inventory will be fully refunded. This only applies to your most recent gnogmentation of a given item.
  • Item Shop items with talents not in the game anymore: Any of these items you have, will give you a full refunds of Crowns.

Converted Items

These items will be converted into equivalents and returned to you:
  • Elder Gear: These will be returned as separate gear.
  • Items with cosmetic feats: These will be converted into toys.
  • Sockets spent on gnogmenting: Any paid sockets used to gnogment currently owned items will be returned separately.

Combat Gear

Any combat gear you have will be converted into Stardust - a special currency which you can use to get new, powerful items. How much Stardust you get will depend on how much gear you have and how powerful it is, but you will always receive enough to get more than the value of your original items.
Although your gear will be converted to Stardust, husks of their appearance will remain. These husks will be level 1 and will have no stats or talents, but they will have exactly the appearance of the original item, allowing them to be gnogmented to preserve your look. (so all of your saved outfits and event appearances will be perfectly safe!)
Accessible from Ardent City and Summer's Hollow, there is a new Starfall zone in which you can exchange your Stardust for Armaments. As mentioned in the second chapter above, Armaments are items which generates combat gear for you - always powerful, and with the chance to be of truly epic strength.

Other Items

Any item types not mentioned above (such as gathered materials, quest items, most cosmetic items etc.) will remain untouched.

Legacy Enchantments

If you have legacy enchantment items that are unused, you'll need to use them. By unused we mean still attached to an item. If you already have the enchantment on your character, there is nothing to worry about.
  • If you have an item that has an unused version Yorick's Fervor rank 1 (legacy version), it will be replaced with the new current version of Yorick's Fervor.
  • If you have an item that contains any form of Winged Helm Speed, it will be totally lost. Use it or lose it.
  • If you have an item that contains any form of Fleet Feet (cheetah boots, winged slippers), it will be totally lost, use it or lose it.
Just to be clear:
If you already have the enchantment on your character YOU WILL NOT LOSE IT. This is only for UNUSED enchantments.

Converted Items

Certain old bundle items are being removed from the system. You'll need to open up the contents prior to the patch in order to either keep the items, or be credited with having them. As long as you have already opened the bundle, all items within will be converted, kept, or reimbursed. But if you do not have the bundle open, the item (and all within) will be lost! None of these items have been sold for years, so if you are a newish player, you have nothing to worry about.
